In this episode the gang have two very disparate experiences – Do You Know Me? a site specific work on homelessness for Melbourne Fringe Festival and Spartacus, the brand new production of a very old tale by the Australian Ballet. During intermission Carla and Phil give the latest blockbuster exhibition MOMA at NGV a D- and discuss their favourite works from the recent Fringe Festival (Sweaty Pits Pity Party and Love Song Dedications (without Richard Mercer)). In coming soon the Elyssian Ensemble and MONA FOMA are recommended as is the visual arts exhibitions Polly Borland at Ian Potter Centre and From Will to Form – the Tarrawarra Biennial. We talk feudal hipster DILFS, gender non-binary opera representations, exploding apple fails, soprano sexism, our current favourite podcasts, the myths about lemmings and Korean garbage disposal. Ep 37 – Verve, Carrion

This month the gang hit the Australia Ballet for Verve! which gave Carla many 90’s art house crushed velvet Peter Greenaway feels and was very gender political for Phil. During intermission we revisit The Crown and Queer Eye – both shows Carla found incredibly problematic but has now grown to love (which Phil was enlightened on all along). We then move along to Arts House for Justin Shoulder’s Carrion – a deeply unique and amazing movement piece with incredible puppetry. Welcome to episode 36 of Across the Aisle, our third season closer. Can you believe it’s been 3 years of Phil and Carla connecting over deep cuts and giggles? This episode is no different. The gang get dilated pupils of lust at Little Ones Theatre adaptation of Oscar Wildes poem The Nightingale and the Rose – staged at Theatre Works. They then spend quality time with an Indigenous family rocked by suicide in Brothers Wreck at The Malthouse. Both performances affected our hosts quite deeply. In intermission the Philip Thiel Grant for Instagram Stories in announced, Carla does some announcing of her own – that she is now a judge for the Independent Theatre category for the Green Room Awards.
